Ed, Eli, Andy & Laura are here to help you with any new projects or development challenges you may have.

Ed

Ed studied Food Science and Technology at the University of Plymouth. This set the foundation for his career & since graduating in 2002, he's held a variety of positions across the Food Industry in NPD/R&D roles for Uniq, Yeo Valley, then later Hayden’s Bakery, & Campden BRI.

After working in development & technical roles at Yeo Valley & Ilchester Cheese Company, he then went on to marketing roles with Kraft Foods and Twinings where he worked with some of the oldest, largest, and most recognisable food brands in the world!

Ed joined Ulrick & Short in June 2017 as Business Development Manager for the South of the UK.

I enjoy the mix of commercials and NPD. Since joining Ulrick & Short in June 2017, my remit is to help NPD teams develop and launch products for their customers by providing clean-label solutions to NPD problems.

Eli

Eli's background is in process engineering. Eli joined the engineering company Silverson Machines in 2008 and initially worked in technical sales, before being promoted to European Sales Manager in 2014. In 2015 she started a post-graduate course in Essentials of Nutrition, and in 2018 studied for a Master’s degree in Food Innovation at the University of Greenwich.

After completing her degree, Eli worked as a Food Technology Manager - a food research role looking at the manufacturing technologies of specific food products and applications with a view to ascertaining whether they could be manufactured using high-shear mixers.

Eli joined Ulrick and Short in the summer of 2021 as Technical Field Support, using her past experience and skills to provide our customers with hands-on support!

I’ve always been a bit obsessed with food and did a lot of food-based modules at uni... I love the diversity of applications and people that we're working with from the massive manufacturers to the small and innovative start-ups, being in this space is very exciting to me and I get to work around something I'm passionate about and interested in.

Andy

Andy studied at Hull College and gained a BTEC Diploma in hotel management, but soon found a passion for the food side of the industry!

Andy started his career with Trust House Forte - working at their brand-new hotels, and took part in their centre of excellence scheme - working at the prestigious Michelin Star 90 Park Lane restaurant. Andy went on to Rookery Hall and Wood Hall Spa both of which won many accolades - honing his skills & working with world-class chefs before working his way to Head Chef!

He then decided to move into New Product Development, spending 17yrs with Northern foods as a Development Chef and Manager, creating numerous different products for most of the major retailers from the value end of the market to top tier.

Andy joined Ulrick & Short in 2018-applying his culinary background to find solutions for successful product launches both in the kitchen and in the factory!

I really enjoy my current role which allows me to use my years of experience and knowledge, learn, create and adapt and work with some great people on a variety or products, projects, and new challenges every day

Laura

Laura's passion for food started during her Food Technology GCSE and continued to grow whilst studying Food Nutrition and Wellbeing at Harper Adams University.

It was during her placement year as a Food Technologist that she decided to pursue a career in new product development and joined the Product Innovation Team at Campden BRI working on a wide range of scientific, technical, and innovative projects.

In 2018, Laura moved back into the food manufacturing sector joining Kanes Foods first as a Development Technologist and going on to become NPD Manager. managing the concept to launch process with a wide range of products with major retailers.

Laura joined Ulrick & Short in 2022 as Technical Field Support.

It's great to be in a role where I am able to combine my knowledge and experience in product development with my passion for food and support our customers to use our ingredients to develop new products and provide solutions to any development or processing issues.
